INTERVIEW

1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us about your background and your journey as a designer?

I am Qiuyi Luo, originally from Changsha, Hunan Province, China. My passion for creativity extends beyond fashion design to various art forms such as painting, photography, and composing.

2. When did you realize your calling to become a designer? Do you have any other designers in your family?

During my high school years, I discovered my true passion for fashion design. I was drawn to its unique blend of subjective creativity and practicality. Although I don't come from a family with a background in art or design, both my family and I have always had a deep curiosity for life.

3. As a young designer, did you receive support from your family in pursuing your dreams in the fashion industry?

Absolutely, my family has been incredibly supportive, even though they initially thought I would excel in math rather than design.

4. Who was your role model while growing up? Your fashion has a distinct identity. What inspires the designs you create?

Leonardo da Vinci was my role model. Like him, I aspire to explore various disciplines and broaden my horizons. My design inspiration stems from a multitude of external and internal questions, creating a rich tapestry of ideas and influences.

5. Was this your first time participating in NYFW? If so, how did it feel to have your line showcased at such a prestigious event?

Yes, it was my first time, and it was an entirely new experience for me. There was a mix of tension and joy in seeing my line being showcased on such a grand stage.

6. Have you had the opportunity to design for any celebrities in the past? If so, who was your favorite to work with? Are there any specific celebrities you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I haven't had the chance to design for any celebrities yet. However, I would love to collaborate with artists like Bjork, FKA twigs, Solange, and others who possess a unique creative concept and style that resonates with me.

7. How has your brand evolved since your participation in NYFW? How did the media, fans, and others respond to your designs? Is there anything you would change about your presentation?

Participating in NYFW has brought greater visibility to my brand, leading to more opportunities and allowing me to gain familiarity with aspects such as production and PR.

The response to my collection has been varied, with some people loving it, others finding it incomprehensible, and some considering it quite daring. I embrace these diverse opinions as it was one of the initial intentions behind designing this collection.

Looking back, I would like to refine the design details even further to enhance the overall presentation.

8. Where do you see yourself in 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years? What does the future hold for Arc Luo Studio? Are there any other fields or industries you envision yourself being involved in?

In the coming years, I envision my brand expanding into various industries such as music, film and television, exhibitions, virtual art, and more. I want Arc Luo Studio to transcend being solely a clothing design brand and engage in collaborative projects with other products.

My goal is for ARC LUO to embody a creative concept that goes beyond a specific fashion style.

9. Given the current events unfolding globally, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, the presidential election, and the impact of the coronavirus, what are your thoughts on these sensitive topics?

I believe the coronavirus has served as a reminder that we are all equal, regardless of our race, social class, or political affiliation. Both the Black Lives Matter movement and the presidential election highlight the importance of staying true to our original purpose and working diligently towards positive change. It is crucial for individuals to remember the values that unite us and contribute to a better future.

10. If you had the opportunity to give advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Discover and embrace your true desires without being swayed by popular trends or concepts.

Have the courage to make choices and decisions that align with your authentic self.
